Tennis Lessons For Kids

ANZ Tennis Hot Shots Coaching is ideal for children looking to begin their tennis journey. Hot Shots is designed to help every child jump in and start playing tennis, regardless of their age or ability.

Played on smaller courts with modified equipment, sessions include lighter racquets, lower nets and low compression balls that don’t bounce too high. With four fun stages (Blue, Red, Orange and Green), one of our qualified Tennis Australia coaches will help guide your kids every step of the way. Lessons take place in a nurturing environment which promotes inclusion and greater participation. This coaching is conducted in small groups where kids are introduced to a sport they can play for life.

How much does it cost?

Your child’s first session at Hotshots is Free and you can register online here.

Does my child need to bring anything?

It is recommended your child wears comfortable sports clothes, runners and a hat, and that they bring a bottle of water with them. You need not worry if you don’t have a tennis racquet to begin with as you may borrow one of ours until you can get your own.

The Fun Four Stages Of Hot Shots

ANZ Hot Shots is a lot of fun and it’s a great way to encourage your kids to maintain an active lifestyle. Apart from skills like agility, flexibility and speed, the program will help your kids learn vital social skills, and they will make lots of friends along the way.

To ensure your child is playing at a level that’s right for them, the Hot Shots program has four stages designed to suit every age and ability:

Launch Pad Stage (Ages 3 – 5)

The Launch Pad stage introduces children to tennis through games and fun activities. Children learn the basics of tennis, including how to rally. This stage really helps children develop fundamental motor skills such as: throwing, running, catching, jumping and most importantly, tracking. There are a number of program options at this stage but it’s a great way for kids to start tennis while having fun.

Court Size: Variable
Tennis Ball: Red Ball (25% Compression)
Recommended Racquet Size: 19–23 Inches

Red Stage (Ages 5 – 8)

The Red stage is for beginners. The red ball is larger than a yellow ball and doesn’t bounce as high (just 25 per cent compression), making it a breeze for even the youngest players to hit comfortably. The courts and nets used in the Red stage are much smaller and so easier for kids to move around.

Court Size: 3m × 8.23m or 6m × 10.97 m
Tennis Ball: Red Ball (25% Compression)
Recommended Racquet Size: 21–23 Inches

Orange Stage (Ages 8 – 10)

After mastering the Red stage, children move on to the Orange stage, where the ball bounces a little higher (50% compression) and the court is a bit bigger. Kids continue to develop their skills in a modified tennis environment, while having a really good time.

Court Size: 6.4m × 18.29m
Tennis Ball: Orange Ball (50% Compression)
Recommended Racquet Size: 23–25 Inches

Green Stage (Ages 9+)

The ball used in the Green stage has a higher compression (75% of a yellow tennis ball) and children play on a full-size court.

Court Size: 10.97m × 23.78m (full court)
Tennis Ball: Green Ball (75% compression)
Recommended Racquet Size: 25–27 Inches

Juniors Stage (ages 12+)

Juniors is not an official stage in the Hot Shots Program but it marks the time when a child is ready to play on full size courts with the normal yellow tennis ball. Once your child is at this stage, they are ready for our Junior programs.

Court Size: 10.97m × 23.78m (full court)
Tennis Ball: Yellow Ball (Standard compression)
Recommended Racquet Size: 25–27 Inches
