Australia’s Top Golf Trainers at Precision Athletica

As the Emirates Australian Open rolls into Sydney, so do many of the country’s top golf professionals and support staff. The week’s highlight is undoubtedly the four-round golf tournament, this year hosted at the Australian Golf Club, with it however are a series of industry development events.

Precision Athletica was delighted to be chosen as the host venue for a two-day gathering of Australia’s top trainers and therapists, an event hosted by Golf Australia and coordinated by their Head of Sports Science, Luke Mackey.

The event centred around bringing together the industry’s best to share ideas, discuss new initiatives, map out future directives and listen and learn from a selection of top speakers from around the world.

First of the overseas speakers making the trip to Athletica to present was Dr Scott Lynn, who is a prominent industry research specialist from the company Swing Catalyst, specialising in the impacts of force on the golf swing.

Athletica has its own biomechanics golf lab that utilises the Swing Catalyst software and force plate, and Lynn lead an interesting talk on how Swing Catalyst is able to “look under the hood to see the engine that powers the golf swing”.

Next to talk was Cornel Driessen, who had flown in from South Africa. Cornel has recently retired from 10 years on the PGA Tour, where he was S&C coach and physio to top players such as Jason Day, Henrik Stenson, Rory Mcilroy and Ian Poulter.

Driessen had a wealth of knowledge and experience to impart on the group, covering his approach to working with the worlds best players, periodising training around a tour schedule and responding to all of the groups many questions.

It was a privilege to have both Scott and Cornel at Precision Athletica and we look forward to incorporating both experts in future initiatives and directives of our own golf program that’s headed by Matt Green.

Overseas guests aside, one takeaway from the event was definitely the incredibly high level of skill and knowledge already in the Australia Golf Industry.

Golf Australia has formed a very impressive team of specialists and many of them took their turn to present, including Biomechanics expert, Ryan Lumsden on correlating movement with performance, and PGA Tour and GravityFit coach, Nick Randall on the latest and greatest training equipment.

Multiple round table talks enabled the team to brainstorm and plan for the coming season(s) and Golf Australia’s Luke Mackey provided constant energy and direction to the topics covered.

It’s no wonder Australia has such a growing pool of talented young golfers and based on what we saw over these two days, the future direction is only looking upwards.

Precision Athletica is proud of our ever-growing involvement in the Australian Golf Industry and look forward to continuing to develop our own golf program in line with the very best practices and experts from around the globe. If you have any questions about golf at Precision Athletica, please feel free to contact Matt Green to discuss.
